A summer ago, a forest caught fire next to a major park. The fire spread to the park, and damaged a good chunk of it. The park has been largely abandoned for the time being.
This park featured historic military bases, and sat close to Native American cultural sites.
You, a hiker, have gone on a winter hike. You are with a buddy who has a broken leg. A freak storm is headed your way, though, and you don’t really have time to get out before it strands you (likely resulting in death to hypothermia).
You found what is an abandoned cabin or structure, probably abandoned even before the fire, to act as temporary shelter.
Thankfully, there are places with notable coal laying around the park that can act as a heat source, but you will need to get that coal.
However, as you search for this coal, it becomes clear that this wilderness is not quite abandoned as one might think.
